Order book: definition

The order book lists all pending buy and sell orders on an exchange, at every price level.

Definition

The order book shows buy offers (bids) on one side and sell offers (asks) on the other. The gap between the best bid and the best ask is the spread.

What it tells you

Large orders placed at a level form walls that can slow the price down. But these orders can be pulled at any time: only executed orders, visible in CVD and order flow, really count.
