Fear & Greed index: definition

The Fear & Greed index measures crypto market sentiment from 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed).

Definition

The index combines volatility, volume, social media, Bitcoin dominance and search trends to sum up investor mood.

How to use it

It's often read as a contrarian signal: extreme fear often comes with bottoms, extreme greed with late-rally excesses. Cross-check it with flows (ETFs, CVD) rather than using it alone.

Frequently asked questions

Should you buy when the index is at 10?

Not mechanically: fear can last. But it's often a zone where the risk/reward of gradual buying becomes more favorable.
